For family and friends of Joke Ajayi, a major newspaper distributor in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, these are not the best of times. Ajayi’s loved ones were thrown into sadness and worry when she was kidnapped by two unknown gunmen on Monday, February 2, 2015.
A colleague, who was with her as at the time she was abducted, said she was taken at gunpoint in the Latoogun area of Ijebu Ode in Ijebu Ode Local Government area of Ogun State.
The newspaper distributor was said to be on her way to collect newspapers at a convergence centre where distributors usually pick newspapers on daily basis when she was abducted at about 5.30am by the gunmen who, according to eyewitnesses, came in an Opel Astra car.
Abdul-rasaq Oyeneyin, a colleague of the abducted newspaper distributor who spoke with the abductors shortly after she was kidnapped, said they had initially demanded a N50million ransom, but later reduced it to N20million.
Oyeneyin said his colleague’s abduction has halted activities in the area since it happened because most distributors were frantically running around to ensure her release.
The incident has been reported at Igbeba Police Station in Ogun State.
