Austin Okocha, former Super Eagles skipper, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to quickly resolve the issues surrounding the appointment of a new coach for the Super Eagles.
While stressing that the country cannot afford to miss out of the forthcoming AFCON 2017 due to be hosted by Gabon,Okocha said Nigerians are eager to know what the NFF plans to do with the team.
“We cannot afford to miss out on the next tournament, so we need to get the coach in to start work immediately. Right now our focus should have shifted towards whoever takes charge of the team to enable us correct the ills of our previous qualifying series. Nigerians want to hear about the team, the plans ahead and not who should or shouldn’t be in charge of the team,” Okocha said.
Okocha, who added the uncertainty created by the void has been a subject of concern for many, said the sooner it is finalized the better.
“The uncertainty and the lack of clarity about the coach is obviously really concerning and worrying for everyone, including players, the local media and fans. I think the sooner the coaching status is finalised would be a big step in the right direction for our country’s football,” he stressed.
