Osagie Out, Otaru in As Edo AG as Okpebholo Restructures Ministries, Assigns Commissioners

The Edo State Government has announced a comprehensive restructuring of ministries in the state. From the new structure, the state now has 28 ministries.

Governor Monday Okpebholo has also approved allocation of portfolios to commissioners to head the ministries. A commissioner is, however, yet to be appointed for the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy.

A list of ministries and their respective commissioners released on Tuesday by the secretary to the state government, SSG, Musa Umar Ikhilor, showed that Dr. Samson Osagie has been dropped as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and replaced by Rowland Itoya Otaru, a senior advocate of Nigeria, SAN.

The governor, in a minor cabinet reshuffle, also redeployed Paul Nosayaba Ohonbamu, a lawyer, from the Ministry of Information and Strategy, and replaced him with Prince Kassim Afegbua, who had held the portfolio in the past. Ohonbamu is now the commissioner in charge of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

In the statement, Ikhilor explained that “This strategic reform is designed to mirror the structure at the Federal level and ensure the seamless alignment of the Governor’s SHINE Agenda with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR”.

According to the SSG, “In view of this strategic positioning, the Governor has approved the creation of additional Ministries and the revival of some defunct ones, bringing the total number of Ministries in Edo State to twenty-eight (28).

“This restructuring aims to enhance administrative efficiency, improve coordination across critical sectors, and strengthen the capacity of Government to deliver effectively on its mandate to the people of Edo State.
