Following the announcement of his victory at election held in the state on Saturday November 16, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the All-Progressives Congress (APC), as the governor-elect of Ondo state. The president also commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the election, praising the maturity displayed by all political actors throughout the process.
According to the statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Tinubu commended the 17 political parties and their candidates for their sense of purpose during the campaigns and the election, attributing the success of the exercise to the civility demonstrated by the people of Ondo State.
He said: “litmus test” for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), commending the electoral body for its early preparation, efficient deployment of staff and materials, and the swift handling of the process.
He also extended his appreciation to security agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force, National Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Youth Service Corps, and the military, for their professionalism in maintaining peace and order during the elections.
He urged aggrieved parties to utilize the judicial system to seek redress, emphasizing the importance of adhering to democratic principles. Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, Ondo State Returning Officer declared the final result, with Lucky Aiyedatiwa scoring a total of 366,781 votes to defeat Agboola Ajayi of PDP, who got 117,845 votes.
Aiyedatiwa was reelected after winning the governorship poll in all the 18 local government areas of the state.
He won in Ese Odo Local Government Area, which was the last LG result presented on Sunday at the State Collation Centre in Akure, having previously won in the 17 LGs that had earlier been announced.
