Student of Int’l High School, Sapele Emerges Winner of UBA National Essay Competition

A 14-year old student of the International High School (IHS) Sapele, Delta State, Omesiri Divine Odjegba has emerged as winner of the 2018 edition of the UBA sponsored annual national essay competition for senior secondary students. The prize is worth two million Naira.

It was a very keen contest that involved 12 finalists shortlisted on merit from several schools around Nigeria. The final competition was held in Lagos on Saturday 24 November 2018 and the results announced in a ceremony at the Headquarters of UBA in Marina Lagos on Monday 26th November 2018.

The Chairman of UBA foundation presented the certificate to Miss Odjegba and two runners up.
Betty Ofotokun, Proprietress of the school thanked God for the feat of Odjegba stating that it was a part of the covenant of the school with God to raise champions in character and learning for Nigeria and the world. 

Bright Ogboru, Principal of the school also gave all glory to God stating that Odjegba had exhibited a unique promise right from her days as a kindergarten kid in the primary section of the school. The Principal stated that as a three-year-old kid, little Odjegba presented a welcome speech to the then Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan during the flag-off of the free health care programme for age 1-5 children of the state, and received a standing ovation. 
Ulisanmi Edukugho, the English Composition teacher of Omesiri who prepared her for the competition stated that it was the happiest day in his career as a teacher. He described Odjegba as not only a genius but also an industrious student who pays close attention to her teacher’s corrections and is never weary of turning in assignments given to her on record time.
