Delta State Police Command on Thursday said that three persons were suspected to have been killed by thunderstorm in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Adeyinka Adeleke, said that the incident remained a suspected case because there were no medical reports to prove that the victims were actually killed by a thunderstorm.
“It is true, but it is still a suspected case because there is no medical report to prove that the victims were killed by a thunderstorm,” the CP said.
The victims were identified as Matthew Utuama, Gabriel Djoma and an unidentified motor mechanic who was said to have came from Onitsha to repair a Tipper engine.
The incident happened at about 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Osieta Avenue in Otu-Jeremi during a heavy downpour that lasted for about 30 minutes. The victims who died on the spot were said to be in a building where they were waiting for the rain to subside when tragedy struck.
