President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has hailed the successful rescue of all abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, describing the operation as a major victory against terrorism and kidnapping while pledging that those responsible will face justice.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound joy and relief following the successful rescue of the abducted schoolchildren and their teachers from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after spending 56 days in captivity.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the coordinated efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies for bringing an end to the prolonged hostage crisis that had kept the nation in suspense.

Tinubu commended the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and intelligence operatives for executing what he described as a successful operation that secured the release of all the victims.

“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Orire, Ogbomoso in Oyo State today after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation that neutralised some of the terrorists that perpetrated the evil act and the arrest of eight of them,” the President said.

According to the statement, the rescue mission resulted in the neutralisation of several kidnappers and the arrest of eight suspected members of the criminal gang responsible for the abduction, while all the hostages were rescued safely without collateral damage.

President Tinubu also acknowledged the emotional and psychological trauma endured by the children, their teachers, their families, and Nigerians throughout the 56-day ordeal.

He directed relevant emergency response agencies to work closely with the Oyo State Government to ensure the rescued victims receive immediate medical attention, counselling, and other relief support needed for their recovery.

The President further appreciated the cooperation of the Oyo State Government during the rescue operation and urged state authorities to strengthen security around schools to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to justice, Tinubu vowed that those behind the abduction would be held accountable.

“My government will get justice for these children and their teachers and for the family of Mr Oyedokun, who the terrorists gruesomely murdered,” the President declared.

The successful rescue operation, driven by military precision, police action, and intelligence coordination, has sparked celebrations across Oyo State and beyond, particularly among families in Ogbomoso who had anxiously awaited the safe return of their loved ones.

The operation is being widely regarded as one of the most significant security successes in recent months and highlights the growing effectiveness of inter-agency collaboration in combating kidnapping, terrorism, and banditry across Nigeria.

The statement was released on July 10, 2026.
