Officials of the Government House and the governor’s office in Akure, Ondo State are in panic mode. There were fears yesterday when reports filtered out that test results for Betty Akeredolu, wife of the state governor and a security aide of the governor had shown that they tested positive for Covid-19. That really may not be the only reason that got them scared. Earlier in the day news of the death of Wahab Adegbenro, commissioner of health had been broken to the staff. He died of the dreaded virus at the Federal Medical Center in Owo, home town of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Adegbenro, a medical doctor had quietly reported for treatment at the federal health facility after testing positive at a time he was treating what was originally believed to be malaria. The governor had two days ago announced his status, hinting that he would work from home. He also advised members of his cabinet and aides to go for test. But reports said that if they took the advise to heart, the officials did not show it until the sad report of Adegbenro’s death and the reports of the status of the governor’s wife and that of the security aide came on Thursday. However, barely 24 hours before that time, Olugbenga Ale, chief of staff to the governor had gone on self isolation. It is not clear whether he had undergone test or if result of such test had been given to him.
