Tamuno Danagogo, Minister of Sports on Saturday warned football administrators in Nigeria against doing anything that could hamper the growth of football in the country.
The minister, who was represented by Bolaji Ojooba, former Secretary-General, Nigeria Football Federation, at the Nigeria Football Association, NFA’s Extra-Ordinary General Assembly held in Warri, Delta State, urged them to put their house in order in the interest of the nation.
While stating that football was a symbol of unity in the country, Danagogo stressed that it will be criminal for anyone to tamper with it.
“Football is the only symbol of Nigeria’s unity and it would be criminal for anybody to tamper with it. It is a major component that every Nigerian identifies with, it is like religion, it is a product all of us cherish and we have to protect it,” Danagogo said.
Danagogo, who urged the administrators to take a cue from smaller countries like Togo and Republic of Benin, says there is no excuse for Nigeria not to get things right.
“If smaller countries like Togo, Republic of Benin and others can get it right, I see no reason why Nigeria cannot get it correctly,” he added.
The meeting was attended by other eminent sports administrators including, Aminu Maigari, NFF president; Emmanuel Ikpeme, Director of Technical, NFF; Adams Idris, Director of Marketing, NFF, among others.
