Femi Gbadebo, founder of Benola, a Cerebral Palsy initiative has hinted that preventing the spread of Ebola virus has to do with more of sensitisation than diverting huge sums of money towards the cause.
He stated this on Thursday at the Combo Hall of the Lagos State Television, LTV while acting as the Chairman of a special programme organized by the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ.
Gbadebo said even as funds are needed to cater for some logistics, inadequate sensitization would make the virus continue to spread like wild fire.
Also speaking at the programme tagged, Lagos NAWOJ Breastfeeding/ Family Week, Ifeyinwa Omowole, NAWOJ national president urged journalists to always verify every piece of information at their disposal before dissemination. She noted that the public put so much trust in journalists and tend to believe whatever they hear from them, hence, the need for them to always come up with genuine information. Omowole added that taking drugs incessantly during a disease outbreak would always result in more deaths and urged people to desist from unapproved medications. Gbadebo and Omowole also urged all parents to help children with disabilities rather than regard them as burdens to their families.
Omotayo Oduntan, Chairman of the Lagos State House Committee on women and poverty alleviation urged all nursing women to ensure their children are well breastfed as only healthy citizens can take part in nation building.
The programme witnessed sensitization talks on Ebola and all diseases in general from medical experts. Gifts were also given to mothers who presented their well breastfed babies for a competition at the event.
Other dignified personalities at the annual programme include Segun Olulade, Chairman of the Lagos State House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy; Akin Osibogun, Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, LUTH; Ayo Sotanwa, Programmes Director of Radio Lagos and a host of other dignitaries.
