Gunmen Attack Police Post, Kill One In Kenya

Unknown gunmen on Thursday night killed a police officer and critically injured two others during an attack on a police post in Kilifi, a coastal town in Kenya.

Albert Kobia, Kilifi County Commissioner, confirmed the incident on Friday.

He said the police have launched investigation into the raid on an Administration Police camp in Mombasa by machete wielding militia who also stole firearms.

“The militia killed the corporal in charge of the camp. Some guns were stolen. We have launched a manhunt for the attackers. We are pursuing the militia who unfortunately killed our officer. They launched the raid when it was raining heavily at night. The police are under firm instructions to hunt down the militia,” Kobia said.

Police reports claim Mombasa Republican Council, MRC, a separatist group; have teamed up with al-Shabaab to carry out attack during the festive season with the government claiming the group is regrouping to plan other attacks in the coastal region that has witnessed a string of terror acts in the past few months.

MRC is also charging that the coastal people’s rights to land and property ownership has been violated.
