LAGOS — Prominent Lagos-based preacher and founder of House on the Rock Church, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, is at the centre of a growing controversy after a video surfaced showing him allegedly pulling a gun on a young TikTok content creator who was recording his luxury vehicle.

The incident reportedly occurred earlier today in a highbrow area of Lagos, where the 62-year-old cleric was seen driving a black Range Rover Sport. The young man, known for creating TikTok videos that showcase luxury cars in Lagos, spotted the vehicle and began recording for his page.

According to witnesses and the viral video now making the rounds on social media, Pastor Adefarasin stopped his car, stepped out, and allegedly pointed a firearm at the unsuspecting TikTokker. The stunned content creator could be heard nervously apologising, “I’m sorry, sir,” as the camera shook, hinting at his fear and confusion.

The act has since drawn widespread backlash online, with many questioning the appropriateness of such behavior from a religious leader of his stature. While it remains unconfirmed whether the firearm was real or a non-lethal replica such as a stun gun, public reaction has been swift and critical.

Social commentators are now revisiting a similar controversial episode involving the pastor in December 2023. Eyewitnesses at the time reported that Adefarasin engaged in a physical altercation with a commercial bus driver along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

He allegedly double-crossed the vehicle in traffic, exited his car, and shattered the bus’s windows with his bare hands after a heated exchange. Some of the glass reportedly injured passengers sitting inside.

One of the affected passengers, a Muslim man, expressed deep disappointment, stating, “My mentor behaves like this? I feel ashamed,” highlighting the disillusionment of many who once admired the preacher from afar.

Critics argue that such acts are inconsistent with Adefarasin’s public image as a calm, suit-wearing spiritual leader who hosts the globally-renowned Christian concert, The Experience. They suggest that his behavior on Lagos streets resembles that of a “street thug” rather than a man of God.

At House on the Rock, Pastor Adefarasin is revered by thousands of congregants, admired for his eloquence, urban style, and teachings. But recent events have raised uncomfortable questions about whether the man behind the pulpit is the same one behind the wheel.

While Pastor Adefarasin has not publicly commented on the latest allegation, calls are growing for him to address the incidents directly and take responsibility if the claims are true.
