The Anti-Kidnapping of the Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday were taken to a forest in Alesa in Eleme Local Government Area where they recovered tied to a tree the decayed body of a water engineer kidnapped two months ago.
The deceased, Dinebari Ereba, 38, was kidnapped on May 15th, 2020 by a five-man gang, who demanded and collected a ransom of N1 million from his family but still killed him.
Ereba, who hailed from Bera in Gokana Local Government Area, was kidnapped at Woji in Port Harcourt.
Two of the suspected kidnappers were arrested while they tried to repaint the car of the deceased. The Anti-Kidnap Unit was called in and the suspects confessed to the crime.
The suspects, Osondu Ichendu, 25, and Amebulem Amobi, 23, then took the police team to the forest where they tied the deceased to a tree.
Ichendu said he had joined the gang to stave off hardship occasioned by Covid-19 lockdown, after other gang leaders had lured him in. He said he was the one that supplied food to the deceased while he lived.
