Amaechi Okonkwo, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Rivers State, said he was still traumatised from his household’s encounter with robbers who robbed him and his neighbours early Friday.
Okokwo told the magazine that despite the precautionary measures he took to stave off trespassers the robbers breached the security and came for him and his family. They took away everything including the bus of the Correspondents’Chapel, which he usually kept at his home.
The state council of NUJ has therefore called on people with information that could help in tracking down the robbers to contact the police or the union.
A statement signed by Ike Wigodo, Secretary of the union, said, “The robbers stormed his residence fully armed and robbed his household and other residents and went away with the Union bus. Members of the public who happen to sight the vehicle anywhere should contact the police or the NUJ Rivers State Council.”
