The United States and its allied Arab nations have carried out airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, ISIS, in Syria. The strikes were aimed at key targets of the ISIS, including its base of operations in Raqqa, Syria, as well as a secretive al-Qaeda branch known as the Khorasan Group.
The Pentagon said the US and its allies used a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles, which damaged multiple ISIS targets, including training compounds, headquarters, storage facilities, supply trucks and armed vehicles.
All the foreign partners participating in the strikes with the United States are Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain and Qatar.
Meanwhile Russia has condemned the airstrikes in Syria. Vladimir Putin, president of Russia on Tuesday told Ban Ki Moon, United Nations Secretary-General that the measures to target militants in Syria lack authority without the approval of Bashir al-Assad, Syrian president.
