Adebayo Alao-Akala, former Governor of Oyo State has emerged the gubernatorial candidate of the Labour Party in Oyo State.

Akala got the ticket after all the five governorship aspirants of the party stepped down for him at the party’s congress.

Akala, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of the PDP primaries, which produced Teslim Folarin, former Senate leader as the party’s governorship candidate.

He decamped to the Labour Party on Monday as he stayed away from the venue of the PDP primary election.

The five aspirants of the Labour Party who withdrew for Akala include Sarafadeen Alli, former Chairman, Odu’a Investment Limited, Nurudeen Akinyo, Kazeem Adedeji, Olu Abiala and Olatunji Sadiq.

Lowo Obisesan, a former Commissioner under Governor Abiola Ajimobi moved the motion to adopt Akala as the party’s flag bearer while Popoola Igbeti seconded the motion.

While giving his acceptance speech, Akala described his emergence as the beginning of victory over darkness adding that it was a very bold step that has put an end to rumours and speculations within the political circuit in Oyo State and Nigeria in general.

Akala, who maintained that no politician or group of people have ever been a monopoly of winning formula for all elections, expressed optimism that he would come out victorious in the 2015 governorship election in Oyo State.
