There is chaos in the National Assembly complex as Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives and other members of the House were on Thursday denied access to the assembly complex by security officials.
TELL learnt that attempts by Tambuwal to access the National Assembly complex were met with teargas canisters fired by the police and operatives of the Department of State Security Services, DSSS.
It was also reported that David Mark, the Senate President was delayed at the entrance gate of the complex before he was eventually allowed entrance by the security officers.
Reports from the National Assembly complex indicate that some of the lawmakers believed to be members of the opposition, All Progressives Congress, APC, had to climb over the entrance gate of the complex.
While the drama was still ongoing as at the time of filing this report, Lai Mohammed, spokesperson of the APC confirmed the development to journalists at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
“I spoke with Speaker Aminu Tambuwal five minutes ago and he confirmed to me that he has been locked out of the National Assembly complex at the second gate,” Mohammed said.
The House of Representatives, which had adjourned sitting till December 3 had to reconvene on Thursday to deliberate on Federal government’s request for further extension of a state of emergency imposed on three North Eastern states of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa, mainly troubled by Boko Haram insurgency.
