Lagos: Card Reader Performance Flaws Election

The Presidential and National Assembly elections held today have been flawed by poor Smart Card Reader, SCR performance in Lagos State.

Briefing journalists on update of the elections at about 4pm today, Akin Orebiyi, Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner asked his team to use manual verification process as alternative in cases where the Smart Card Readers, SCR malfunction.

Many voters including some contestants could not be accredited with the electronic device designed to verify authentic voters across the nation.

Yemi Osinbajo, Vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC could not be accredited up until 2:05pm due to the machine failure. After the failure of two different machines for the verification failed, INEC official in his polling unit 033 on recreation centre, VGC, Ibeju/Lekki local government area used the incident form for his verification.

Aside from the fact that INEC officials arrived 18-minutes past 12pm with electoral materials in Ward-9, polling unit 034, voters could not be accredited with the SCR.

Voters turnout for the elections so far in Lagos has been very impressive.

Joseph Mbu, Assistant Inspector General of Police has said the security situation in zone-2, Lagos and Ogun states has been very calm. Mbu told reporters at the Lagos office of INEC that the security situation in the zone is efficient because a strategic security plan has been put on ground.
