The 87th Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars took place on the 22nd of February 2015 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California,in honour of the cinematic achievements in the film industry.
The prestigious event saw awards presented in various categories. The movie (Birdman) was the night’s biggest winner, earning the Oscars for Best Film and Best Original Screenplay and it’s director Alejandro González Iñárritu was named Best Director.
Eddie Redmayne earned Best Actor, Julianne Moore was awarded Best Actress ,while in the category of Best Supporting Actress, Patricia Arquette earned accolade for her work in (Boyhood), beating the likes of Meryl Streep and Emma Stone.
In one of the evening’s most emotional moments, rap artist and R&B star, John Legend sang a duet of “Glory,” the anthem from “Selma” which won the Oscar for best song and their performance brought the celebrity-studded house to its feet, some with tears in their eyes.
Meanwhile, Ida was awarded Best Foreign Language Film, the first black-and-white film to win in the category, while Neil Patrick Harris who proves to be one of the hardest-working hosts in Oscar history on Sunday night, singing, dancing and even sprinting in his underpants onto the stage of Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
Another standing ovation of the night came after Lady Gaga, popular artist and song writer delivered a rousing medley from the musical film classic “The Sound of Music,” then welcomed the star of that movie, Julie Andrews, onto the stage.
“Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute,” said a visibly moved 79-year-old Andrews. “It’s hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released.”
