Eighteen-year-old Nigerian football sensation Zadok Yohanna has completed a stunning £21.5 million transfer to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion, capping off one of the most inspiring success stories in African football.
The highly rated left-footed winger, who was playing grassroots football with Ikon Allah Football Academy in Kaduna little more than a year ago, has signed a five-year contract with the English club that will keep him at the Amex Stadium until June 2031.
The transfer is expected to be formally completed when the summer transfer window opens on June 15, 2026.
Yohanna’s emotional reaction to the life-changing move has captured the hearts of football fans worldwide. Videos circulating on social media show the teenager struggling to hold back tears while signing the contract that will take him to one of the world’s most competitive football leagues.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, the young winger reflected on his difficult journey to the top.
“I’m really happy because I know where I came from. I want to make my family proud – and I did,” Yohanna said emotionally.
One of the most touching moments surrounding the transfer came when Yohanna’s agent informed his family in Nigeria about the deal. During a phone call to his father, the news that his son had become a Premier League player sparked emotional reactions from family members, highlighting the sacrifices that helped shape his career.

Born in Bauchi State on June 29, 2007, Yohanna relocated to Kaduna at a young age, where he developed his football talent through the Ikon Allah Football Academy. His breakthrough came in mid-2025 when Swedish giants AIK Stockholm secured his services for a reported €750,000.
The teenager wasted little time making an impact in Sweden. His blistering pace, exceptional dribbling ability, creativity, and eye for goal quickly made him one of the most exciting young talents in the Allsvenskan. His performances attracted widespread attention from top European clubs and earned him opportunities with Nigeria’s youth national teams.
Brighton eventually won the race for his signature despite reported interest from several major European clubs, including Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Borussia Dortmund.
The Premier League club’s reputation for developing young talents is believed to have played a significant role in Yohanna’s decision to join the Seagulls.
The deal represents a substantial financial windfall for AIK Stockholm and ranks among the most significant transfer fees ever paid for a Nigerian teenager. It also highlights the growing recognition of Nigerian football talent on the global stage.
Yohanna’s journey has resonated deeply with many Nigerians, particularly after reports emerged about the sacrifices made by his parents to support his football dreams, including borrowing money to purchase football boots during his early years.
His remarkable rise from local football pitches in Kaduna to the Premier League has been widely celebrated as a testament to perseverance, talent, and determination.
As he prepares for the next chapter of his career in England, Brighton supporters will be eager to see whether the young Nigerian can continue his rapid development and establish himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest emerging stars.
For many young footballers across Nigeria, Zadok Yohanna’s story serves as a powerful reminder that dreams can become reality through hard work, dedication, and belief.
