The Belarusian Government has appointed two Nigerians, Abba Usman and Oluseyin Olufade, as honourary counsels to represent the country’s interest in Nigeria.
While speaking at a reception in his honour in Abuja on Monday, Vladimir Makei, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs presented the new counsels to the general public.
Makei, who described Nigeria as a promising partner in the African continent, stressed that his government is facilitating a partnership with Nigeria in the area of agriculture.
“Belarus and Nigeria have a lot to offer to each other. Belarus has agricultural implements; they have a good history on security and Defence equipment, and Nigeria is cooperating with them on that. We have facilitated the import of some agricultural tools and we are having business roundtables to discuss agricultural products,” Makei said.
Olufade, who sees the appointment as an assignment that must be done well, promised to enhance bilateral relationship between both countries.
“This is an assignment, and like my colleague said, we will ensure that we enhance the strategic bilateral relationship between both countries,” he said.
